The Theory Test
How to apply
You need your provisional before you can book the test. When you have this you can apply online at https://pt.dsa.gov.uk/tests/tests_E/tt/data_processing.asp.
You will need debit or credit card in order to pay.
To book over the phone you need your provisional licence and a debit or credit card.

Lines open 8.00 am to 4.00 pm except on Bank Holidays.
What do I bring?
- Your provisional licence
- Any other documents i.e. provisional application form
What happens when you are there?
- Register at reception
- Put valuables in the lockers provided, as you cannot take anything into the test room with you
- Whilst in the test room you must not talk or distract any other candidates
- The computer will then display your name and type of test being taken
- Any problems raise your hand and the adjudicator will come to you
The test is split into 2 parts:
1) Multiple Choice
- You will be given instructions on how the test works. You can go through a practice session to get used to the layout and the test procedure. After the practice session the test will begin.
- You will be given single answer questions and multiple choice questions. Some questions you may need to give more than 1 correct answer (2 correct answers for 1 question)
2) Hazard Perception
- You will be shown a number of clips with various hazards. This can rang from other vehicles, to pedestrians and road conditions
- You can score up to 5 marks per clip and the test contains 15 hazards
